London Transport Modern London Bus & Superloop Moquette Cushion

There’s something exciting about getting on a Superloop. Climbing the stairs, finding that special seat right at the front of the top deck and looking out through the big window. The road stretches ahead, London rushes past below, and suddenly even an ordinary journey feels like an adventure.
This is the real moquette used on modern London buses, including the Superloops. Its red, black and grey rectangles are easy to recognise, and if you look carefully, you’ll find the TfL roundel woven into the pattern.
Over a century of London Transport design
London’s buses weren’t always red. In 1908, the London General Omnibus Company adopted the bright red associated with its rival Vanguard. Red made its buses stand out on London’s busy streets, and it soon became one of the most familiar sights in the capital.
In 1933, the creation of London Transport brought London’s buses, trams and Underground together under one organisation. Red became the familiar colour of buses serving London, while green was used for country buses travelling into the towns, villages and countryside beyond.
Those colours also became part of London Transport's design identity. Look at classic moquettes such as Fossil and Colindale, and you'll see how red and green could be brought together in the same fabric, reflecting the two sides of London Transport.
Today's Modern London Bus & Superloop moquette carries that colourful tradition forward. The familiar London Transport red remains, now joined by black and grey, colours that echo the glass, steel and concrete of modern London.
London has changed around its transport network, but the red remains unmistakable.
A classic London design, reimagined
Great design doesn't have to start from scratch. The modern London Bus & Superloop moquette has a striking connection to the classic Misha Black District Line moquette.
Introduced on the District Line's D78 Stock trains, the earlier design was commissioned for London Transport under the direction of Misha Black. It later appeared on London buses, Jubilee Line trains and other transport systems around the country.
The modern bus fabric uses rectangles of exactly the same size, but turns them vertically. It's a wonderful nod to an earlier generation of London Transport design, taking a familiar pattern and giving it a fresh appearance.
The bright red, black and grey create a bold modern design, while the famous TfL roundel is woven directly into the fabric itself.
Known to the London Transport Museum as Buses 2016, this moquette continues London's tradition of creating distinctive fabrics for its transport network.
From the red buses of 1908 to today's Superloop, London's transport design continues to evolve.
Bring a little London home
The bright reds, deep blacks and soft greys make this cushion full of character. The strong pattern looks wonderful against a plain sofa, on a favourite armchair or in a bedroom.
The woven moquette has a rich, textured surface, with colours that change slightly as the light catches the fabric.
And every time you see it, perhaps you'll remember the excitement of climbing upstairs, finding the front seat and watching London unfold ahead.
A little piece of London's famous red buses, and all the adventures that come with them.

Moquette is super-duper tough. If it gets a bit dirty, a good firm brush should do the job... For something really stubborn try some carpet cleaner. If in doubt - drop us a line.
