A railway looking forward

Network SouthEast launched in June 1986, bringing a coordinated red, white and blue identity to trains and stations across London and the South East. Blue Blaze formed part of that approach to railway interiors.

Its repeating groups of parallel diagonal lines echo the movement of the stripes and angled graphics used across the Network SouthEast identity.

It belonged to a railway in transition. Older slam-door trains were being refreshed while a new generation arrived, including the Class 465 Networkers, which entered passenger service in 1992.

Those trains once felt new. Over the following decades, they became part of everyday life for generations of passengers. Now, with replacement being planned, they carry memories of their own.

In February 2025, Class 465 unit 465908 returned to Network SouthEast colours and was named Chris Green, celebrating the man who led the organisation and helped shape that period of change.
