London’s buses were once ablaze with the maroon, brown, gold and green threads that make up the Routemaster moquette. Industrial designer Douglas Scott was given the privilege of styling both the interior and exterior of the Routemaster bus. The moquette was integral to his concept. The tartan style accompanied the yellow ceilings (a colour affectionately dubbed ‘Fagnolia’ as a result of tobacco smoke) and ribbed floors.
