Finished with an engraved image of the original train and presented on its Rail Tags card, it offers a tangible connection to the last generation of Southern slam-door trains.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe story of 4VOP 3905\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eOriginally built as \u003cstrong\u003eClass 423 4VEP unit 3463\u003c\/strong\u003e in 1968, the train was converted for Connex South Central in 1999 into \u003cstrong\u003e4VOP 3905\u003c\/strong\u003e. The conversion removed compartments to create an open-plan interior. It operated suburban and South Coast services, making its final passenger journey on \u003cstrong\u003e18 April 2005\u003c\/strong\u003e before moving to Ashford Chart Leacon, where it was used to shunt other trains.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAfter serving as a donor for preservation, parts of the unit were held at the East Kent Railway. In 2024, metal was recovered from driving trailer \u003cstrong\u003e76398\u003c\/strong\u003e before that carriage was scrapped. Rail Tags worked with the \u003cstrong\u003e400 Series Preservation Group\u003c\/strong\u003e to transform the metal into individually engraved railway keepsakes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eReal carriage metal, not a replica\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe metal's surface colour, age-related marks and patina are genuine features of its railway past.
